Organizing the Refrigerator
Organizing the refrigerator is something that has been on my to-do list for months now, and considering how little time it took me to do, I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner. For the last little while I would find expired food hidden in the back of the fridge each week, simply because the fridge was not organized properly.
Last week I decided to tackle my fridge organization problem and I organized the refrigerator with nothing more than a few plastic dollar store bins, a butter dish, and other items I already had on hand.
On the top shelf, we have 4 bins:
- Small, long bin to hold my daughter`s bottles (I believe these were 3/$1 at Dollarama)
- Large white bin to hold yogurt (I believe this one was $1.50 from Dollarama)
- Medium green bin for miscellaneous items, such as cream cheese (2/$1)
- Medium white bin for all of our block cheese ($1) *extra cheese goes on the door
On the middle shelf, we have a milk bag holder (not from the dollar store) and eggs on the left side:
Brita pitcher, large juice jugs/cartons and milk are on the right:
We store our meats on the bottom shelf and the small drawer holds leftovers and extra random items:
We keep our fresh produce inside the bins at the very bottom of the fridge.
On the door, we keep our butter in a ceramic butter dish ($1 from Dollarama), condiments on one shelf, and drinks on the bottom shelf. Extra cheese and butter go on the refrigerator door too, until I get around to preparing them for the freezer.
Having an organized fridge has saved us time (we no longer have to search for things, we know where they are), money (we are no longer wasting food because we can see it all) and has eliminated the stress of being disorganized.
Take a look around your home. I’m sure you can find a few plastic bins that you can stick in your refrigerator to create a more organized space. And if not, for only a few dollars at your local dollar store, you can get your fridge organized once and for all.
How do you organize your refrigerator?

Shouldn’t put meats above the fruits incase they leak juice, then it contaminates the fruit.
But how do you put meat below a crisper? All I do is buy a few plastic trays (at the dollar store!) and put the trays of meat on the shelf. That way, if the meat does leak, it doesn’t have a chance to get into the crispers.
Thank you for the great tip! I have one large basket for leftovers - I always look there first before I prepare lunch. No more forgotten containers with moldy leftover food at the back of the fridge!
I know it’s crazy; but, I can’t stop admiring the inside of my fridge. It is so organized, clean and tidy!
I have to agree with Trish. Raw meat should always be stored at the bottom of the fridge with the highest internal cooking temperature on the bottom and the lowest internal cooking temperature(such as seafood) on top.
Where did you get the milk bad organizer?? thanks
I got it from a gift shop a long time ago, I can’t remember the exact name of the store.
They sell milk bag organizers at Solutions, for about $8
